Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Being Italian, I have often joked that olive oil makes you beautiful- at least I like to think that considering how much we use it in our cooking! But the truth of the matter is, olive oil is a wonderful kitchen gem that can be used not only in your pasta gravy, but also as a moisturizer. It is one of the safest and healthiest oils you can ingest so, as we have addressed in previous vlogs, it is certainly safe to use on your hair, or your *skin for that matter!

Put a small amount in a small container, and then place that inside a cup or bowl of hot water. Let it warm up, but be careful that you don’t get it so hot to where it would burn you!

Pour the warm oil onto your palms, and then distribute evenly through hair, careful not to get it to close to the roots, so your roots won’t be flat.

Leave on for at least 15 minutes (can put on a shower cap and leave on over night for very dry hair), and then wash with shampoo.

*Olive oil makes an excellent moisturizer for your skin and face. Can be used in place of lotion, and it can be used around the eyes or face for a healthy and effective moisturizer.

Coconut Oil

This is another beauty product that is likely hidden in your kitchen pantry, or if you don’t have it already, it is easily attainable on the baking aisle of your grocery store! Coconut oil is also a very healthy oil to use (it smells nice too!), and can double as a moisturizer for the skin or hair.

Can use on dry hair to help tame or eliminate frizz.

One friend of mine with naturally curly hair uses it to scrunch her hair, providing shiny and frizz free curls. (personally I find it a bit heavy for scrunching, but experiment and see how it works for you!)

Use as a leave in conditioner. I have found rubbing a very small amount between my palms, and then applying it to the lower half of my hair while it is still wet, and before blow drying, helps condition and tame frizz.

Do you have any tips or products that work well for conditioning?
Please leave a comment and share your thought and experiences!

Here’s the third vlog in our series of all natural and easy to make beauty products! This vlog is on how to make your own bath salts. Please pardon the dog barking and door squeaking in the middle of it; as I said in my last post, getting absolute quiet in a busy household is impossible sometimes. Methinks many of you can relate.

We are using basic ingredients here, and it’s amazing what you can do with ingredients and supplies you probably have around your house! I’ve found it a fun personal challenge to attempt to complete certain projects using only items I already have on hand. Items that you might normally throw away, like jars, material scraps, baskets, etc., can all be used for projects like these.

Have fun and enjoy!

Blessings!

~Marianna

I finally have the second “vlog” up and ready, to continue on our learning adventure of how to make your own beauty products! I tell you, in a busy household, it can be quite a challenge subduing everyone long enough to get one of these recorded- keeping a busy family quiet can be something akin to the task of herding cats. It seems that if someone’s not coming in and out, the phone rings, or the dog barks.

I have really been enjoying my fragrant water that I made in our last vlog, as I hope you all have. In the morning as I make my bed, I use a few spritzes, and then when I turn down the sheets at night, I’m greeted with the sweet scent that reminds me that being faithful in even those small things, like making your bed, is rewarding. Let me know how you’re enjoying yours!

And without further ado, join me in our family’s kitchen, and learn how to make your own body powder:

Check back next Monday for the next vlog, making your own bath salts.

Hello friends!

Hope everyone is doing well and having a great week! I, for one, can’t believe how fast time is flying and that it’s already the end of yet another work week! I’m sure most of you can relate.

In my last blog, I promised a video blog containing some natural beauty tips… and it’s here!

Join me in my kitchen for my first “vlog” and learn how to make your own all natural body spray, room or linen spray! It’s very easy to make, and I’ve listed the ingredients that I mention in the video, below.

Aprox. 16oz distilled/purified water

Essential oil (22 drops for room or linen spray, 12 drops for body spray)

As I said in the video, the creative possibilities for making your own labels are endless! The labels I made, in the picture of the finished product below, were made quickly and easily; but you can make them as simple or elaborate as you want by usingscrapbook paper, stickers, stamps, or whatever you would like to make an attractive label. Remember- the right packaging can really make a difference!

I would love to hear how your own endeavor in making fragrant water goes, or if you have any questions- please leave me a comment!

Check back again soon for a vblog with more make-your-own natural beauty products!

Blessings!
